Studies all agree that infidelity in usa is on the rise, and that men are more unfaithful than women. But women disagree on the age of the act. So at what age do men cheat the most?
French study
In general, infidelity is difficult to study because it is complex for researchers to find participants willing to respond in good faith, and therefore to collect accurate data. The various studies should therefore all be viewed with hindsight.
the older a man gets, the more his infidelity curve increases: we are around 40% for the 18-34 age group, we pass the 50% limit for the 35-49 age group, and beyond the age of 50, we even reach 65%! This increase can be explained by the fact that over the years, there are simply more opportunities to be unfaithful. A study by our American colleagues seems to validate this theory by situating the peak of infidelity at the age of 55.
American study
However, an academic study, based on a sample of members of the American dating site Ashley Madison, contradicts this data by publishing a graph showing the age distribution of male members.
There is a sharp increase at the age of 33, and a decrease as age increases. Peaks in infidelity are seen here in the years leading up to a new decade: at age 29, at age 39, at age 49. These men are probably trying to reassure themselves about their power of seduction before taking a step forward in their lives: the midlife crisis is therefore not just a myth! This theory, which confirms the risk of the ages preceding a new decade, is supported by a study of the English site “IllicitEncounters” (also specialized in extra-marital encounters).
Be careful, however: not all unfaithful men are registered on extra-marital dating sites, and not all those registered on these sites have necessarily acted on them. And it is also necessary to take into account the fact that, concerning the studies of extra-marital dating sites, the figures can prove to be distorted because some users do not hesitate to lie about their ages at the time of their registration …
